German Grand Prix

The German Grand Prix deserved to be won by a dominant Ferrari. It was just the other guy who should have been allowed to take that win especially on the anniversary of Massa's horrendous accident last year. As I didn't say last time is brewing up nicely for a 5-way, 2 1/2-team fight to the finish. We have an outright winner again for this race - congratulations to rpoynter. A prize will be on its way shortly.

  • Sebastian Vettel Q&A: I will always go for it
After crashing out of the last round in spectacular fashion (taking a title rival with him), you might expect a more circumspect approach from Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel in this weekend's Italian Grand Prix - a race on which his championship hopes could hinge. True to form, however, Vettel is playing it cool, insisting nothing will change in his quest for victory…
  • Friday analysis - more in reserve at McLaren?
McLaren's MP4-25 was tipped to be the fastest car around Monza, and it may yet prove so. However, as the British team experimented with F-duct versus non F-duct configurations on Friday afternoon, Hamilton and Button found themselves outpaced by arch rivals Red Bull and Ferrari. We take a team-by-team look at early progress in Italy…
  • FIA Friday press conference - Italy
Technical directors: Aldo Costa (Ferrari), James Key (BMW Sauber), Paddy Lowe (McLaren), Sam Michael (Williams), Adrian Newey (Red Bull). Q: A question to you all. Can you tell us about your Monza specifications? What have you changed? Are you running the F-duct if you have an F-duct? Sam Michael: Our Monza spec is just for Monza really. We didn't actually put a lot of work into it as it is only one race, so we put a lot of our effort into the next race as it pays off for five Grands Prix rather than one...

  • Barrichello offers wisdom of the man who moved over
It’s easy to forget that Rubens Barrichello is a three times winner of the Italian Grand Prix, including last season at the wheel of the Brawn car. This year he is unlikely to be among the contenders, but the Williams team is optimistic of getting at least one car into...
  • FIA turns the page as it realises team orders rule is unworkable
The full reasons behind the decision of the World Motor Sport Council in the case of Ferrari’s team orders in Germany has been published and it is clear that the governing body has turned a corner from the Max Mosley era.Yesterday the WMSC decided to uphold the decision of the...
  • Alonso: Mistakes, I’ve made a few…
As Ferrari arrives in Monza for its home Grand Prix, there is an interview with Fernando Alonso in the Gazzetta dello Sport, which makes for interesting reading. It’s a wide ranging discussion with Ferrari’s lead driver and in it he admits that he’s made mistakes this season, but that driving for...

  • Sebastian to the fore
Sebastian Vettel set the fastest lap of the afternoon session in Italy, with a lap that was fractionally faster than Fernando Alonso’s best for Ferrari. Felipe Massa was third quickest in the second Ferrari, while Mark Webber’s session ended with a mechanical problem out of the track. He finished up sixth, behind the McLaren of [...]
  • Button fastest at Monza
Jenson Button set the fastest time of the first practice session at Monza, on a glorious sunny morning at the Autodromo Nazionale. Sebastian Vettel was second quickest and is keen to rid himself of the recent image of being too inconsistent to the be challenger for the World Championship, while Lewis Hamilton was third fastest. [...]
  • En route to Monza
I left for Italy very early yesterday morning and drove. It was a good thing to do, rather than spending the day mulling over the daft decision by the FIA World Council. Here was, in my opinion, a valid opportunity for the federation to make a statement not only about the rules and regulations, but [...]

  • Exclusive image of Chandhok’s car for Korean track test
Karun Chandhok’s going over to the new circuit in Korea on September 4th, to take part in a demo run in the Red Bull. The only problem with this seems to be the constant rumours in the F1 paddock which say that the asphalt hasn’t even been laid yet. Better be this Red Bull then, [...]
  • Two F1 Teams in GP2 Next Year?
Just a short walk from the F1 pitlane here in Hungary, the GP2 Series paddock has this weekend been given its first hint over who will be chosen to race in the championship for its third generation from 2011 to 2013. GP2 Series organisers have sent letters to 17 prospective entrants, informing them that they [...]
  • Ferrari gives the game away
There will no doubt be a lot of media chatter today and in the short break before we arrive in Hungary about what happened in today’s German Grand Prix. I don’t want to go on too much, as there’ll no doubt be a million articles like this, so I will keep it short. I won’t [...]
